This questions goes out to all my fellow New Yorkers out there in Yahooland....I just don't get it. There is no sun underground, what's the point of wearing sunglasses? If you are one of those shades wearing folks, please clue me in or if you have an opinion as to why, please share. Thanx!

That sunlight looks awful bright when you step out!!! It's like being a mole person!
Also, it helps you avoid eye contact, which can lead to all kinds of trouble.

To avoid eye contact. So some nut doesn't say "Why are you staring at me?!?!?!?"
They may also want to case out other riders for a theft, etc., without people knowing they are being observed.

They are avoiding eye contact. Uncomfortable in crowds. Or if it's a guy, maybe he just wants to check out "babes" without being seen.

I'm not from New York, nor do I ride the subway my guess would be to avoid eye contact with the commoners.

There is nothing interesting to see, nothing fun to look at...after a while, nothing is new. You'll have to put them on sooner or later and there is less adjusting to light that way. And that way, I can look at people and they don't always know it.

- They want to look around without people thinking they're looking at them
- They think it looks cool
