I would like a judge or lawyer to answer this if possible, i have joint custody of my two children.....an everyother week thing.....is this common and how does it affect the children 6 and 12.....the two houses are very different and so is the parenting style. Also how much does the court take into consideration the wants of the children?

It is not really that common to have joint custody but it seems to becoming more popular. There is no way for someone to predict how your children would handle this but try to put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if you were forced out of your home every other week? In my opinion it must be very unsettling not to have a permanent place of residence. Imagine having to switch identities every other week.

As far as the wants of the children, your 12 year old will carry more weight than your 6 year old as far as the court listening to their wants and desires.

My advice is to forget the whole arrangment. If you really want joint custody - then you and your husband trade houses every other month.

every other week end maybe but not every other week , that is to up rooting for kids of any age . The primary care giver , usually mom keeps them mos the time , dad gets every other weekend and every other holiday on the odd or even year "you choose" and six weeks out of the summer , be specific with times dates and who pays for travel between the kids. and get primary joint legal custody , the primary sets you as the care giver and you don't have to consult him Every time the kid gets a runny nose or an ingrown toe nail

I AM NOT A LAWYER OR JUDGE TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, AFTER BEING IN COURT A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER THE PAST NINE YEARS SINCE MY DIVORCE THE JUDGES THAT I HAVE HAD HERE IN WISCONSIN DO NOT TAKE IN TO CONSIDERATION THE WANTS OR NEEDS OF MY KIDS.

IN A POSITIVE NOTE THE JUDGES THAT I HAVE HAD HAVE ALWAYS FAVORED ME OVER MY EX-HUSBAND IN TERMS OF CHILD SUPPORT & HOW I PARENT.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU IT IS ALWAYS A TOUGH THING ON THE KIDS WITH A DIVORCE.
