What kind of insect while moving resembles a fish swimming? i.e. they "wiggle" their body while moving similar to how a fish looks by moving their fins back and forth to move. They are only maybe 1/4 inch long, and are grayish in color.

Could use some more details? Where was it found, in your home or while out swimming or fishing in a river?

If your thinking of aquatic insects, there are several whose larva swim by wiggling their bodies up and down (more like a dolphin then a fish). Included in these are some Baetidae, Ephemeridae (often called wigglers), and Isonychidae (minnowflies). All of these belong to the order Ephemeroptera also known as Mayflies.

From the outline it appears like a beetle. yet beetles do no longer chew or sting people, trees on the different hand ... despite if if the wings are above the physique, then a cukoo bee or wasp could desire to be the respond. considering the fact that bugs have their skeleton on the outdoors, all bugs are no longer common outdoors. If there's a next time, capture it in a jar, instead of flushing it.

I'll agree with the others, probably silverfish. Guess that would explain the name. Did you find it in your house? Silverfish often infest people's houses.
