Nutritional supplements cannot help prevent soreness, but they can help heal the inflammation. Vitamin C with bioflavonoids speed healing and recovery of the connective tissue. Essential fatty acids, especially the gammalinolenic acid (GLA) found in evening primrose oil, are used to build anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. Vitamin E is also important for healing, and further serves to prevent scars from forming as a result of the inflammation. Glucosamine is very important in healing damaged muscles.
Herbal remedies relax aching, sore muscles.
Take 3 or 4 aqueous horsetail extract vegetal silica capsules three times daily to improve muscle tone and repair connective muscle tissue.
Willow bark is used for pain instead of Aspirin TM. Soak 1-3 tsp. of the bark in cold water for two to five hours. Take 1/3 cup three times daily. If you have a sensitive stomach, combine the willow bark with 1/4 part licorice root and a small amount of cinnamon bark, or take 1 capsule of powdered willow bark three times daily.
For aching muscles after exercise, combine saffron, dandelion, gentian, skullcap, valerian, buckthorn bush, cayenne and wild yam. There are similar combinations available in capsules. Saffron is the major part of this formula because of its ability to remove the lactic acid build-up in the muscles. This build-up is the cause of soreness and stiffness after beginning a new exercise program.
To relax muscles, take a half-hour hot bath with lemon balm, fir needles and/or hayseed infusion added to bath water, or add 20 drops each of eucalyptus, camphor or lemon balm oil. After the bath, rest in bed for at least an hour.
Add 5 drops of tea tree oil to 1 tbsp. of warm almond oil to massage muscles.
To relieve pain, rub St. John's wort oil into the painful areas.
Arnica is also an excellent remedy for muscle pain.
Calendula cream is a proven remedy for sore muscles.
To relieve the symptoms of aching, heavy and tired legs and ankles because of stagnation of blood in veins of expectant and nursing mothers, make a tea or drink 1 tbsp. of the fresh juice of St. John's wort and yarrow.

Yoga, aromatherapy, homeopathy and reflexology will all help - oils like lavender and rosemary. Don't use these oils with homeopathic remedies.
Relaxation techniques should help, too - solving the problem at source..
A completely weird suggestion I have come across is to iron a cabbage and place it while still hot, on the area affected. I am completely honest about this but have never come across anyone who has done it. If you do try it, plese let me know if it works.
Lavender or rosemay oils in a hot bath are good.l

There are over the counter things that you can use. Ben Gay etc... But I believe that a good thing to do is heat. There are heat patches now that you can stick on. This might help. Also they have those back massagers at the drug stores for about 30 bucks.
If it's your job that's stressing you, I agree with the other person. Maybe find a different job, or get a different chair if you are a desk person.

Take a bath in epsom salts for three days and if that doesn't help then go see a doctor to get an anti inflamitory for your muscles, I have the same problem but to be honest the only thing that really did it for me was a message

I understand...when that happens, I STOP the activity that probably brought on this problem. Next...a few hot baths every day.Wet heat is good...hot tub . I also use a heating pad. If it continues,and IF you are allowed to!!!!!!!.....I take 3 Advil( I use the liquid capsules) WITH FOOD (that is a MUST) 2 times a day. If the problem persists, I take a prescribed medicine...Flexeril. It is very important your doctor know your medical history before taking any medicine. I am currently just getting over a very sore neck problem. Good luck,friend.

Moist heat works well.
wet a washcloth but don't wring it out all the way then put it in a plastic bag (don't close it ) put in microwave for 10 seconds at a time until a temp that feels ok for you then close tightly getting out all air and put on the sore area (I put mine in a pillowcase). Sometimes I use a little eucalyptis oil on skin first. Works wonders on tight muscles.

I don't know if its natural but the best stuff on the market for painful muscles is old. Use Tiger balm. Some people do not like the smell but is better than ben gay and works much faster. Its great on your temples too for headaches.

see a chiropractor... you may be holding tension there because you're out of adjustment and a chiro can get to the cause of the problem, not just cover up the pain.
in the meantime, try epsom salt in a warm bath. also rubbing alcohol with someone to rub it in.
if it's during the day, say sitting at a desk... make sure you're stretching every hour or so.

keep an ice pack in the freezer at work, i use a small one that i can slip under my bra strap when it gets really bad.
also invest in a really good memory foam pillow, you'll be amazed at how good they feel.

Tiger balm is amazing for the immediate, arnica gel and/or tablets will help with the long term pain, and if you can find any of the bath salts or massage oil from a company called Olba's, you will be set. Their stuff is pungent but very soothing.

If you have any rubbing alcohol or any thing with alcohol in it, dump some on your hand, rub it in just a little, and then rub your sore spot in a circular motion. This will get your blood flowing the way it should and the pain will go away. Just make sure you do it in a circular motion.
