*.rar files are just another sort of *.zip file. You need to download a program that specifically deals with *.rar files.
WinRar for example.

Technically rar files cannot be veiwed, its not that type of file, u need WINRAR software,free from the internet to unpact the file, once u have installed this software, right click on the file and select 'extract files here'. u should be sorted

I use AlZip...it opens MANY types of compressed files (zip, rar, acr, arj, etc.) Plus, it's free!

Your abode windows compressed document wizard will do it, WinZip and StuffIt will do it too - they are not downloading techniques. they are techniques for compressing and de-compressing archives.
