Why do new DVD's and CD's come out on Tuesdays?

It has always been this way.
The industry must have determined that this date best fits their ability to get product into stores consistently on time as well as achieve their national promotion schedules best.

I was told it's national release day. Some albums that are released on a special day (like Halloween) get shipped the week before and sit till they are released.
