Indians are short of world class players (except billiards/snooker/chess). So whenever any rising star is noticed, all there hopes come to stay with them. They support them to the fullest. It is in the form of encouragement and you can not just call it exaggeration. See the intentions of the fans. They really love to see their stars perform well.

Sania Mirza was definitely over hype but Dhoni has really given shivers to men like Lara. A Player can be acknowledged as very good batsman when the opponents use all tactics like abusing, chuking, appealing unnecessarily or making people walk accross the sight screen or delay the tempo by some excuse of injury etc.
You may see all this happening when ever people like Tendulkar or Dhoni go to bat because the run rate shoots up like fever.

Do Indians exaggerate &over-hype their rising stars, like Dhoni &Sania Mirza. If Sania wins a match or if Dhoni hits a century it is been made a big issue which has a drastic effect on their performance in their next match and they play poorly

Certainly not.You do not come across often players like the ones of Dhoni or Sania Mirza. They are highly applauded internationally and rated competetive with quality players in the respective games of cricket or Tennis.Let us not belittle the bravado and stunning performances of these uprising stars trying to be critical of players and the focus they get from spectators

They get over-attention even though they maynot be in int.national top-tier bcuz sportsmen are so rare in india and govt with media make sure they get so-so star status which will entice many more youngsters to try thier luck in respective game.

Damn right. View a funny one in newspapers! 1st day: Sania's ranking has fallen down from 40th to 41st; ooooops. 2nd day: Her ranking has improved from 41st to 40th - oh what a relief!. 3rd day : Sania's ranking remains static!
What the hell, could there be any other option?

Probably not. More movies are made in India then anywhere else in the world. Thats why they call Bombay ...Bollywood. Thier stars are a big deal there. Just like in the states.
