If it's really infected, it won't "just go away by itself." If you let it go, your eardrum could break and you could have hearing problems.
It could be that you just have a bunch of fluid built up behind your ear drums, in which case sudafed would help. Or you could have an external ear infection, which might respond to tea tree oil or warmed mineral oil.
If it's an internal ear infection, though, you won't be able to treat it using alternative medicine (as far as I know).
I'm very much in favor of alternative medicine, and I use it whenever possible, but I would not let an ear ache go too long. You could try warming up some mineral oil and dropping it into your ear to help with the pain temporarily, maybe try the suggestions I mentioned above, but go to the Dr. if it doesn't go away or goes away and comes back. I'm pretty sure antibiotics are the only thing that will help an inner ear infection.

don't mess around with your ears, pressure can build and your ear drum can burst. Ear problems can cause balance problems and your hearing could get messed up. I got an ear infection and ended up with really loud ringing sounds in both ears. I was taking a Rx at the time and think it could have caused it but the doctor says no. Anyway I had loud noises for several days and it drove me crazy at night, I couldn't sleep.

There are drops that you can buy OTC, but you really need to see a doctor - an infection can worsen if it's not properly treated, and in addition to being really painful it can damage your hearing if it's bad enough.

Have you already taken a decongestant, such as sudafed, to reduce inflammation that may be contributing to fluid build up? This is not a pain reliever, but may reduce what is causing the pain.
