I'm trying to find out what was the name of the song that Elton John wrote for Princess Diana. Some help would be great.

he simply re wrote candle in the wind for her.....

Sub titled 'Ode To Diana'

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall you
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend never will

Loveliness we've lost
These empty days without your smile
This torch we'll always carry
For our nation's golden child
And even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you brought us through the years

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall you
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend never will

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
Goodbye England's rose
From a country lost without your soul
Who'll miss the wings of your compassion
More than you'll ever know

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And you footsteps will always fall you
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend never will

Goodbye, English Rose...it was actually a slight re-write of a song he wrote many years before for Marilyn Monroe (Candle In The Wind), not a 'new song' written for Princess Diana.

The name of the song is candle in the wind. It was originally written for Marilyn Munroe but after the death of princess Diana he altered some of the words and re recorded it for her. He has said after singing it at the funeral for princess diana he would never sing the song live again. x

It was originally released as : Candle in the Wind on the album: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. He re-wrote the words in honor of Princess Diana. I think a recording of it was made right after the funeral .. but it might be difficult to get a copy of it now. Good Luck ! :)

He took the song Candle in the Wind and changed the lyrics to reflect Princess Diana. He gave the song a new subtitle but I can't remember what it was and I can't seem to find my copy of the cassette.
