"Walk-On-Me" Plant, is a creeping Thyme that grows only 3" tall, (Also called Mother of Thyme). It is a decorative, dense-growing ground cover, and when you walk on it the whole area will is filled with the aromatic smell of fresh thyme. It grows well in partial
shade to full sun and hard-to-plant areas. Spreads rapidly, has small evergreen leaves and clusters. I have this and it is so pretty, walking on it does not kill it, and best of all I put the mower away. Read More & See Picture:

Plant breeders are still working on it. So far it hasn't happened. Kent Blue Grass: some of the newer varieties are "well behaved" like 'Baron' or 'Glade' but you do have to mow. The newer blue grasses advantage is they will still look pretty good without constant fertilizing. Most people want "thick and green" which usually means lots of nitrogen (the 1st number in the fert analysis). Lots of nitrogen means growing and mowing.

Try some of the new cultivars of Scotts or at a quality lawn and garden center and grow it with a fertilizer lower in nitrogen. For example Scotts Super Turf Builder is 30-3-3. Too high to slow the growth. Better would be a fall fert with 18-12-10. It's still going to grow with 18% but not as fast and it has enough that the lawn will still look great.

Zoysia plugs as long as your lawn gets lots of sunlight. The "Rebels" brand seed grows well in shady areas, but it is a little higher maintenance.
Zoysia grass turns brown in cold weather, but can survive cold down to somwhere around -30F.
