If a stranger asked you to borrow a quarter on the street to make a phone call would you give him one? How about a stranger on the Internet asking you to simply send him a quarter?

Yes I would give a quarter to a stranger on the street, but I would not take the time to send one to someone over the inernet.

The street person is makes it personal because you can see, hear and touch them (if you want to)

No and no.

I would be suspect that the stranger would want more than a quarter, the fact that I would be stopping and opening a wallet on a public street...friends could be waiting nearby for such a target to jump. Instead I would smile and suggest he try a store if it's an emergency or ask a cell phone user for assistance. Or in other cases, ignore the inquiry together.

In the case of Internet use, my computer ID can be easily lifted to mark as an easy target in the future. That could end up costing more than a quarter.

Stranger on the street maybe, stranger on the internet definitely not! My reasons for not - because how many other people are going to send this stranger a quarter...wouldn't take too long for that amount to get up there now, would it? I've seen people begging people for money on the internet, even setting up websites to 'help me pay off my debt'...sorry...I don't play that game.

I would give the person on the street because the situation is more immediate.
Not over the Internet because it would be a hassle and they might not even need the quarter. The anonymity of the Internet makes it impossible to read body language.

Hi there, i have just studied sociology also :) and loved it. I would yes, give a man a quarter if i were to encounter him on the street, although via the internet would be of another concern, this is only because of previous sitautions which have seen people close to myself becoming targets to internet frauds.

I would give one to the stranger on the street because I could see him rather than giving a quarter to the one on the internet.

It depends. If the person begging the quarter was an obvious panhandler, I wouldn't "loan" the quarter. If it was a non-beggar who honestly needed the coin for a clearly stated reason, I'd give it.

I gave a stranger $20 once when he said he lost his wallet and needed to get home. A stranger did that for me -- he gave me his business card and I repaid him.

I wouldn't loan/give money on the Internet.

Send a quarter when the stamp cost more? Don't think so.
Someone asking to "borrow" a quarter? Yes with interest.

if a stranger asked me for quarter i would definitely give him a quarter its a quarter i has little value to me, but if i needed to send to send someone a quarter i wouldn't because of the consequences of them finding out who i am and stuff like that, but if you think about it the person i gave a quarter to he could follow me home???????

On the street, sure.

On the internet, nope.

By the way, can you spare a quarter?
