both are fast; light is 186,000 miles / second... sound is about 760 miles/ hour... so light is much faster!

Light travels faster than sound. The speed of light is 3 * 10 to the power 8.For eg:- We see lightning first before hearing the thunder. Thus it shows that light is faster than sound

Both are fast . But light is faster than sound . And Gravity is instantaneous. No way to measure its speed!
light needs 8 minutes to reach the earth from the Sun. But gravity needs no time to reach the earth.Remoeve gravity from the sun.the moment the earth and all the planets around the sun will fly at their tangents in to the space.-There will be no time gap.So this is the only thing that is the fastest in th euniverse and its speed is unknown to man as yet . Will it ever be calculated Time alone can tell . But none now.

In some very unique circumstances the local speed of light can be slower then the local speed of sound. For example, in nuclear reactor pools a very strange green glow was observed emanating from the containment pools. As it turned out, the glow was caused by the fact that light propagated through this medium more slowly then vibrations could. It was named Cherenkov radiation. Look it up in Wikipedia.

While both light and sound travel as waves, the speed of light is much, much faster.
Light is composed of electromagnetic waves which travel independent of a medium. That is to say, light can travel in a vacuum, such as outer space. Electromagnetic waves travel very fast. In a vacuum, the speed is 300,000,000 meters per second; the maximum speed which energy may obtain. This value is abbreviated as "c" , and you may have seen it before as part of Einstein's equation E=mc2. However, when light passes through transparent materials, it slows down a bit. This is because electromagnetic waves interact with the subatomic components of matter. In water, for example, light slows down to around 0.75c, or 225,000,000 meters per second. Even in a material as dense as diamond light travels well over 100 million meters per second!
Sound is created by small changes in pressure near the surface of a vibrating object. These changes are propagated through a material medium, such as air, like the ripples formed when one tosses a stone into a pool of water. Sound travels through air at about 340 meters per second. In contrast to light, sound often travels faster in dense materials. In liquid water, sound travels 1450 meters per second. And, in metals such as iron, sounds can travel well over 5000 meters per second. While this is about ten times the speed of a supersonic jet airplane, it is only a tiny fraction of the speed of light.

Sound travels at about 750 mph, light travels at about 670616629 mph. Light is therefore a little faster.

of course light move faster than sound but varies with the medium in which they travell.
as u must hav noticed during lightning first we r able to see the liht in sky and after a difference of few minute is the sound heard, althought tthese processes takes place simultaneously.
this thus proves that light move faster than sound.
speed of light in air =3*10^8 m/s ,which is the greatest velocity ever hear of.
