Cubic feet measures a volume and yards measures a length, so there is no conversion between them. That's like converting cubic inches to inches. They simply measure different things.

In order to convert between items of the same type (length to length, volume to volume, etc.) you'll need to find out some conversion factor. You simply have to look these up.

For example, 1 yard is equal to 3 feet. So to convert 6 feet to yards, you can multiply:

( 6 feet ) * ( 1 yard )/( 3 feet ) = 2 yards

Notice that the "feet" next to the 6 "canceled" with the "feet" next to the 3. That just left you with yard. The "conversion factor" here is the "(1 yard)/(3 feet)".

If you need to do a conversion, Google can do these for you. Simply go to Google and type in something like:

23 feet to yards

The result that Google will give you is:

23 feet = 7.66666667 yards

You can also do things more complicated with Google, like:

54 feet per second to miles per hour

Which gives you:

54 (feet per second) = 36.8181818 miles per hour

Both of these results are given in my "sources" below. Click on them to see the actual google search.

three feet = 1 yard
so a square 3 feet by 3 feet is 1 square yard or 9 square feet.
a cube 3feet x 3feet x 3feet is one cubic yard or 27 cubic feet.

Those are your conversions.

to turn cubic feet into cubic yards, divide by 27.

you can derive any other conversion the same way. A drawing helps.
