Customer Service Representative is an obsolete term, once used as the designation for someone who fielded customer inquiries regarding a product he had purchased.
The position has been largely dropped and replaced with the job title Customer No-service Representative qualification for which is limited to an ability to say, "Please hold while I transfer your call to another person who can help you."

Depends on the type of company and what they do. I'd say the general customer service representative description would be one who answers phones or makes phone calls to clients/customers, and helps a client for the company determine how to work something, how to fix something, help with any complaints they may have, any updates regarding their accounts, help to establish an account, and other types of client-based situations, problems, or benefits.

You answer incoming calls from people that have purchased the product your company sells. It can be a good (like computers) or a service (like insurance). I have done it for years! It can be both rewarding & frustrating, and you have good calls & bad ones. Some jobs require lots of training, some more reading from a troubleshooting list. I like it because you get to help people.

The job description varies from company to company, but it always involves dealing with the public. If you have the ability to manage
stress, and can not take other people's rudness personally,
it's a great job. This type of work looks great on a resume because future employers want to be assured you have good
people skills.
