Leonard Cohen was certainly a very influential force among 1960's folk singers. Just look at how many times Suzanne was covered. I would be hesitant, however; to call him the greatest singer-songwriter of our generation. I would probably call him the very best poet of our generation. I can't describe properly how his poetry makes me feel...It's like reading the most beautiful tapestry you've ever seen...Something like that. I used to go to Montreal all the time with my father, Mount Royal area just to breathe the same air that he did...Silly teenage romanticism, but I'll always remember it. I've still got have of his collected works memorised to heart.

truthfully Van Morrison. the two are impressive songwriters, yet Morrison has an factor in vocals for me. well-known Leonard Cohen must be Hallelujah, merely by using fact it is so influential, between the main suitable songs of all time. For Van Morrison, I would desire to assert the two Astral Weeks, Brown Eyed lady, or Summertime in England.

Whose generation? I'm 65 and he was recording when I was a very young woman, so I think of him as MY generation!

The greatest? Time will tell. Tom Waits is in the same category, I think. But Cohen is talented, complex, profound, definitly an iconoclast. His lyrics have a depth that Waits lacks. I'm certainly a fan!

I think Leonard is one of the greatest POET singers of our generation....(by the way, what's OUR generation?)....his songs are pure poetry set to music....and as it said on the back of his first album way back then......'these songs speak to us all...those with ears will hear'
