A.D. is not the abbreviation of the English phrase "After Death", but of the Latin phrase "Anno Domini" (hear the pronunciation here:http://www.answers.com/topic/anno-domini ) or more completely "Anno Domini Nostri Iesu Christi" (meaning "In The Year of The Lord" in English ) and is used to show the number of years AFTER the time Jesus Christ was BORN (as opposed to B.C. ("Before Christ"),which shows the years BEFORE Christ was born).

(For more details, you can read the history of "Anno Domini" here: http://www.answers.com/topic/anno-domini)

B.C is Before Christ but A.D is not After Death but it is \
"Anno Domini" and there is no period like when Jesus was alive ;
Anno Domini is the period which started after Jesus's brith.
Then onwards it came to be known as Christan Era.

Let's be clear. Yes, B.C. is 'Before Christ', while A.D. is 'Anno Domini' - the Year of Our Lord'. The period when Jesus was alive was still governed by the much more ancient Hebrew and Roman calendars, not the Christian one.

A.D. is anno domine. The year of our Lord. While Jesus was alive some of it was B.C. (until He was about 4 years old) The majority of it was A.D.

no bc is before christ
a.d is latin - ano domini - which in English means the year of our lord. This is all years since the birth of christ till now.

However many people now call it CE - Christian Era rather than A.D. as it has less religious overtones and it is also used to differentiate it from the Chinese year.

My name is Matthew Giovine the date bc before Christ and ad after his death seems to me D.C. Would be most logical to refer to his 33 years of life on earth they claim it has to do with the millenniums is how the reference of time was identified but for such a remarkable man I feel his life should be referenced to D.C. During Christ. They say they have his life documented down to 1&2 years it should be BC/DC/AD Matthew Giovine 4/16/2017
