Because you have gone so long without food, (24 hours, my guess right?) you're stomach has shrunken, and your body feels you are starving to death. You feel boated because your stomach is smaller, and gassy because now your stomach acids are working double time to make up for 'lack' of work.

When you awaken, you should always eat something, even a granola bar. This will regulate your eating habits, and you won't have this sick feeling anymore when you eat your small nightly meals.

I work nights too. That bloated gassy feeling seems to be very common among night shift workers. I don't know what causes it, or really how to get rid of it. If you find out, I'd love to know.
