I know Los Angeles county and Riverside county has them, but why doesn't Orange County.

Public health mostly operates on a local level. That means counties (and a few cities) make the decision to use letter grades in the restaurants.

OC simply chose not to use letter grades. You can lobby the County Board of Supervisors or call Environmental Health to change their minds. Letter grades are nice and all, but remember, you have every right to just ask the manager for a copy of the inspection report. They aren't that hard to read.

In LA County, Pasadena, Long Beach and Vernon have their own city health departments. Pasadena also chose not to use the letter grades, though LB still does (not sure about Vernon, but who goes to Vernon to eat?). If you head north, you will notice that most counties north of LA do NOT use letter grades.

Because each county's health department has different regulations for restaurants. Here is the OC site:
http://www.oc.ca.gov/

Here is the Orange County Restaurant Inspection Information Now Available Online:

You can pretty much tell if the restaurant is clean when go to their bathrooms & if you can walk by their kitchen, you can get a feel if the food is clean to eat at this restaurant or not.

Good luck in finding your answer.

Perhaps you should contact the Orange County health department and find out.

They don't have letter grade in Ventura County either....but if there is a problem.. they are on it quick! You do have a type of certificate on the window, but basically states it has been inspected, and they are quick to remove them!
Atleast it was that way a few years ago when I was there.. Aloha

Because the OC is "better" than the rest of the world.
