See if you can contact the person you interviewed with and thank him/her for the interview. During that time, see if you can find out why you weren't hired, gracefully of course. Let him know that you want to correct whatever the problem was for future interviews. Unless it was just a minor entry level minimum pay job that is kind of like winning the lottery since they just reach in and pull someone out. In that case, it could be they didn't like your shoes, or nothing at all, just a random hiring. If that is the case, don't sweat it.

First impressions - This is tough because you can say something or wear something that just didn't fit right with the employer. Someone else could have been a better fit. There are thousands of jobs. Keep interviewing. It must mean a better job is waiting down the road for you.

maybe they are considering a number of other guys with the same skills and credentials as you have and cannot decide as yet. normally an application processing takes longer than a week. you just need to patiently wait, if you really want the job, and better, just try tour luck with other companies. in that way, you'll have more chances of getting hired and choices of company to get employed on (if by luck, most of them, after your interview, hired you) and even bargain for a higher salary. =)
if the job's really for you, by all means, it'll be given to you. but if it's not, then just move on. there are so many vacancies if you try to become more resourceful.

Maybe you just didn't interview well or it was filled internally and they just had to go through proper channels and interview everyone that was qualified. My company interviews everyone that applies and picks the most qualified applicant. Without being there, this would be a hard question to answer.

We need a little more information to really be able to answer the question. However, most people don't get jobs even if they are perfect for the job because their resumes aren't up to par. Your resume should be viewable in 20 seconds, not to verbose, it should not be fancy in any way, one font and letter size and be easy to read. And of course have perfect spelling and grammar. I asked an English teacher friend to help me with mine. Hope this helps.

Well Betty, what a ? We weren't there honey, only you and the interviewer were! Ask yourself, if you dont find the answer then contact the company and ask for feed back. Good luck. Maybe another way to look at it is you were too good for them...:)

Always ask for feedback. It's also a good opportunity to say that you were disappointed that this role wasn't for you, but that you're still very interested in the company. That way when something more suitable to your skills and experience comes up, they may get in touch.
