You didn't say where you live. If you live in Miami, FL it is a natural occurrence. You get it off by using high pressure water spray..then spray solution on it that repels mold. If you live in Tropics like Miami, you must use tile roof, $10,000.00 and lasts for 10 to 15 years.

The best and cheapest way to remove mold and meldew is SImple Green and water and bleach, mix one gallon of each and soak and then rinse work great on facisa boards

It is moss. Fine granulated copper sulfate in a hose end sprayer will kill it, but wear a face mask, as the fumes are dangerous.
