Should it be you and are going... or you and I am going..?

I heard sometime ago that the only auxillary that follows "I" is the word "am".

It is grammatically correct to say "You and I are going to church."

The way to remember is to ask yourself what would work best if you replaced the subjects with one pronoun. You wouldn't say "We am going to church" -- you would say "We are going to church."

While it would be grammatically correct to say "You and I are going to church" -- it would be incorrect for a totally different reason. I will not go to Church with you.

It should be " You and I are going to church"

You and I are going. Am is used when speaking of just one person, e.g. I am going to church. The declension of the verb to be is
I am
you are
we are
they are
he is
she is.

You and I are going. Remember these? (They have always been helpful to me!)

I am, you are, we are, they are, he is, she is.
