This guyhad Carolina playing boring trap hockey when he was in the NHL before and unless he has learned something new well...that hockey won't wash in todays NHL where you get called for a foul if you check somebody.Wait , that's basketball but that is an easy mistake now isn't it..

The Maple Laffs are desperate. They will do anything to buy a cup.
They gave Nashville a hockey team maybe someday they will give Toronto one--hahahahahahah.It wouldn't matter if Elmer Fudd was their coach..there will be no changes in the Laffs future.
Get ready for the Parade on Henri Brassard Blvd next spring.

MAURICE was playing the boring trap in Carolina because he did not have good players on his team. Therefore offence is not an option.

The trap was played by many on the "old NHL".
He has already told the media that he will play an up-tempo offensive game that will create fast rushes up the center ice during attacks.

In addition, he has experience coaching the young kids from the AHL - Toronto Marlies; and in the "New NHL", young kids and players need to be developed within especially with the new cap-structure.

With the options available for choosing a new head coach - there wouldn't be anyone more suitable than Paul Maurice.

Hey, what do you have to lose anyways - is GM Ferguson's choice anyways - he has the tendency to make bad judgements. Just look at Allison, Lindros, Belfour, Domi, Khavanov, Richardson, and so much more.

Well, Maurice did beat an arguably superior team in the Leafs in the conference finals a few years back.
I would argue the better question is why was Pat Quinn fired? But the answer to me was so that JFJ could show he was doing *something* to try and fix the mess that he made.
As for Maurice being strictly a trap coach, I disagree. If you watched any Marlies games, they employed a rather open brand of hockey. Maurice himself stated a couple of days ago that the Leafs would be focusing on puck-possesion and attack rather than playing a variant of the neutral zone trap or left wing lock.
