Lettuce, apples, carrots, these should tide him over until his owner gets back.

1.) Cabbage greens? Not the best diet choice.

2.) Let it graze in an untreated yard or garden. Lots of stuff growing wild are GREAT for tortoises.

3.) Pretty much any human salad foods will work. Here is a wonderful tortoise diet site: http://www.petdoc.ws/TortDiet.html

4.) Missing a couple days as long as it has water is no big deal for a healthy tortoise. They can go a month without food if necessary.

cabbage really isn't that good for them anyway... Go to the grocery store and pick up collard greens, bok choy, endive, escarole, or mustard greens, there are others you can get but those are the best staple greens. You can also get squash and other veggies... Produce is very cheap so you can splurge.

My desert tortoises love broccoli and zuccini. Also, carrots, apples, and occasionally green grapes as a treat.

Get some Romaine Lettuce. You can find it at any grocery store.
You can also offer it an assortment of fruits and vegetables and let it pick out what it wants.

your not suppose to feed them plain lettuce. Collard greens are good. Strawberry's, cilantro, small carrotts, pumpkin, rose petals, no citrus (orange), etc.

pretty much any kind of veggies, and fruits are good too. I don't know what they eat for protein, you might want to look it up on the 'net.
