There's quite a bit of cheap costumes out there. You have to be real creative. My mom was Charlie Chaplin once and wore all black(she already had everything) and painted a black mustache. Grab a wedding dress from a thrift store and paint your face, you could be a "dead bride". You can also be a vampire, find all the dark clothes from a thrift store and paint your face with some blood on the corners of your mouth. Be Betty Boop, find a cute little red dress at a thrift store, a black wig, some heels, and paint your lips red. Gypsy; gypsy skirts are in and if you look, I bet you can find one at a cheap $5 clothing store, some big hoops, a scarf to put around your head, some bangle bracelets, and a big belt to go around your waist. Whatever you think of just do it and just go to a thrift store and put it together. You don't have to know how to sew to put together a creative costume. You also don't need a lot of money, just a great imagination. Good luck!

*Do you know anyone who wears a uniform for their job? Ask if you can borrow it for the evening.

*A witch is usually a very cheap costume. Just buy an inexpensive witch hat and pair it with a cute black dress and heels or really any outfit.

*A scarecrow is another easy outfit to do, if you own a pair of bibbed overalls. Wear a flannel shirt with them and a floppy hat. You can buy a bit of raffia or straw to peek out from the sleeves and neck.

*Someone I know once dressed up as an accident victim. He dressed up in ripped old clothes and made up his face really white with blood from the corner of the mouth. What made the whole outfit was a baggie of cooked spaghetti dyed red that he kept in a rip in his shirt. Every once in a while he'd eat a handful of his "guts." So gross, but it was a real crowd pleaser!

*Be a mime. Just wear all black, make your face up white, and practice a few hand gestures to communicate.

*Be a puppy. Pull your hair up in twin pony tails (dog ears). Put a sock over each pony tail for the ears. Do a black spot around one eye. Wear a solid color sweatsuit. Maybe you could even spring for an actual dog collar and a cute dog toy to complete the look.

*Be a vampire victim. Dress in whatever you wish...anyone could be a vampire's victim. Make you face up to be really pale and do really dark eye makeup. Then put some "bite marks" on your neck with red nail polish or a marker. If you wanted, you could rip the collar of whatever you were wearing to make the bite more obvious, or wear something with a sexy low neckline so that the bites can be easily seen.

*Dress as an 80s punk rocker. Wear a mini skirt and a tank top. Buy a pair of tights and tear some holes in them. Tease your hair way out and spray it with some colored hairspray. Do wild make up.

There are so many ideas that you can do simply and cheaply. It often depends on what kind of look you want to pull off and where you will be wearing the costume. If you will be at an adult party, go for a more sexy look. If you'll be around little kids, they tend to love cute things...older kids love the gross factor.

Whatever you decide...Happy Halloween and Good Luck!

You can go to Walmart and get comfy nurse scrubs for about 12-13 dollars. Go online and under a google search type in halloween costumes, you can find the craziest stuff! If you have a pair of tight jeans and a "cowboy-esque" shirt - buy a blond wig and a cheap cowboy hat. Add bad makeup and TADA! Your Dolly Parton!

1. Probably the cheapest and easiest is the much overdone GHOST.... white sheet, holes for eyes...maybe the mouth...and voila!

2. Another suggestion would be a mummy. You could use gause wrapped around you, or elastic bandages would also work... Another great mummy wrap would be to tear an old white sheet into strips and use that.

3, Another really cheap one would be to get a cardboard box, make holes for your arms, paint drawers on the front, decorate it with a lamp and an alarm clock...maybe even put a lamp shade on your head... and fo as a ...(ARE YOU READY?)

A One Night Stand!

4. You could also wear solid black clothing and run some neon yellow tape around your body and go as a bee. For wings, get a wire coat hanger, shape it into wings and cover it with netting or a piece of sheer material.

Good luck

I scared the hell out of people one year for simply backcombing my hair (It is very long) and whitening my face with red and black make-up to add to the effect.
It doesn't cost a lot for a little face paint but becareful what you buy if got sensitive skin. Make-up is generally good enough and it can be very effective. I went as a ghost and it really did spook some out because I was so white and got piercing blue eyes which made me look even more ill.
Bin liners and sheets and a few quid spent on accesories is good enough for a couple of hours. My kids love halloween, although I always finding it exceedingly cold that night or typically raining where I am

The key is good face makeup. If you can do a good skull or skeleton face then the rest is easy....or clown make up...or one year I went as a cat. I took my time and did my whole face with the individual hairs. Then add ears, dark clothes and a tail.

I did my husband as a hobo. After school he sat at the bus stop and the kids didn't even recognize him until he finally spoke. Practice now before the holiday so you get make it perfect when Halloween gets here.

A few years ago, I used my old Girl Scout uniform as a guide to create a new adult version. It had a smaller shirt showing bare midriff, & a shorter skirt. Then I added a few felt badges (or real ones if you have them), put the hair in cute ponytails. Then I wore knee high socks & loafers. I carried around a few boxes of Girl Scout cookies & a backpack! It was a fun costume to wear to a bar! I didn't have to buy one drink that night!

Have you seen the first Karate Kid movie? Do you remember the bullies at the Halloween dance? They were all dressed in the black tight clothes that only showed bones and then they had the skull make-up on their faces. I always loved that costume. It's simple, it's cheap, and original. I liked the faces most of all, because the places you apply the black make-up on your cheek bones, eye sockets, and nose make you more or less gaunt-looking, if that's the right word.

Black and silver strips on body and minimal clothing, a real rough wig with one horn at top, two long ear rings (you can borrow earings from some teenage gal around you), a tail at your back .... you can add up some more imagination ,, like fake plastic teeth and white color thick jelly droping from lip corners .... and a vague indication of adult symbols in all this,,, just keep people wonder about what u really mean, it'll be more catching.

Its all cheap, if you think its costly just contact me, I'll send you all this stuff as a friendly gift, but you have to send me your pic in this costume :)

A gumball machine! Very inexpensive. You need one see through garbage bag and a package of small balloons. Blow up all the balloons, not too much air because you don't want to stretch them too much; they would break too easily, and they are gumballs. If you are tall you can fill the garbage bag with the balloons and tie it to your stomach with ribbon, and use the handles to tie around the back of your neck. You can wear a red hat for more effect. If you are very short, or making this costume for a child, you can actually make holes in the bottom of the bag to put you feet in it, and more balloons and use the handles to slip around the shoulders, tie them together in back. For Halloween night, if they go out trick or treating, the red hat can be a red wool one for warmth. The garbage bag provides alot of warmth by itself.
