Frankly, my view on all this is that guns must be banned. The world is full of too many sick people to take such a risk.

I'm talking about the shooting in Montreal, and another lovely young girl taken from her family thanks to some sick ******* who was mentally deranged.

He's not even worth the time of day to read about...not going to spend one second thinking about that pathetic life.

What annoys me here is how adamantly US citizens defend their guns. You don't understand. We really don't care what Americans do with their guns. We don't want them up here in Canada but they are finding thier way up here and into the hands of sickos, and are in the hands of children, druggies and psychos. We don't want to own guns. We don't want to see guns. We want our cops being the only ones with guns, and we are sick of what our city is becoming because of guns. This would not have happened if it were not for American guns. Are you getting to see where resentment builds when people of America just shrug their shoulders and say who cares? Do you not see how everything you do has and is affecting the world around you?

And as for your point of all the other creative weapons people can use, yes, that's true...but someone has the capacity to defend themselves and overtake someone with a knife or bat or pea-shooter. You can't dodge bullets flying a dozen at a time.

Life without guns can be ok. We do not have them here in New Zealand, certainly no handguns and rifles are only allowed for sporting/hunting purposes and the licence to obtain one is not easy. Personally i do not know anyone who owns a gun. Where guns are freely available, as in the US i think a lot of voilence related injury moves up the scale to being fatal due to the use of guns. Banning the right to gun ownership (in the US) could be something to find support but it would be a brave politician to take up the cause. Any such campaign would have to come from a non-political platform. Maybe one day they'll work it out.

You can kill people with a lot of other weapons too. Should we ban steak knives too? Well, then there would be no need for steak either. Lets make steak illegal. Eating all wild game would be illegal too, unless you trapped it - no shooting. What if someone started trapping people? Oh, and the stun guns used in slaughter houses should be banned too - they could kill a person. OK, now vegetarianism is a rule. Anyone caught eating meat is most likely a killer. We need more rules like hell needs a heater. Shootings are a tragedy. My prayers for the families. But, blaming guns is like blaming your keyboard for poor grammar.

I heard the young women's uncle being interviewed on the CBC and he pretty much summed up my view, the public doesn't need to have guns. The army and the cops yes. Anyone else , no.

Wonder if Harper is re-thinking the gun registry NOW and will include automatic weapons on it?

Since most of the illegal guns come from the US, either smuggled or bought online , wonder if "Steve" or Stockwell are gonna get tough with W and the NRA and the congress. Probably not. Steve, Peter McKay and the rest of the Conservatives are so ***** whipped by W and the GOP.

Frankly, I become annoyed when people use murder as a reason to ban guns. If murder is the criteria for banning items used to kill, then there is a long list of things to ban - from baseball bats to automobiles to bare hands.

If a person wants to kill another person, they will find a way. A push off the top of a tall building will do it. Say, shall we ban tall buildings, as well?

Unfortunately, taking a gun out of the hands of a sick person will not cure the illness. People who do not value life will find a way to take it with or without guns. We need to address the illness and not allow it as an excuse to avoid the punishment they deserve.

They say that guns don't kill people. People kill people. That's true, but guns make it a lot easier for one person to wreak havoc.

It's time to stop flogging this dead horse, and start using common sense. Gun lovers make a big issue of the distinction between "law-abiding gun owners" and "criminals." But what's the difference? In the case of Kimveer Gill, it was about 1 second. He was reportedly a person with no criminal background until he started aiming at human beings and pulling the trigger. Society has no way to distinguish between persons who have no criminal record who will never go berserk and those who will. If we allow people without criminal records to have guns, then we are arming some percentage of them that will eventually act out in a crime of passion or insanity.

Then there's the matter of getting our stories straight. "Guns don't kill people. People kill people."

Sure. Makes sense. But then, why not...

"Weapons of mass destruction don't kill people. People kill people." ??

or "Nuclear weapons don't kill people. People kill people." ??

Let's face it: you have to look at what the purpose of the item is. Guns, weapons of mass destruction, nuclear weapons all have one purpose -- to kill.

Well, it's like the old saying goes. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. I have law abiding guns. They don't hurt a soul.
