Men do have a better sense of direction and distance than women. We just don't like to ask for directions. Women are more visual and relate to landmarks to guide them.

To explain directions to a man, you might say "Go south on Main Street until you reach Avenue A. Go 3 miles east on Avenue A to Jackson Street. Go 4 blks south and it will be on the right."

The same directions to a woman might be "Go south on Main until you see the Wal-Mart store and take a left on Avenue A. Go east about 3 miles and turn right after you pass the Conoco. Go about four blocks. It will be on the right just past the school."

Most women I know do have bad sense of direction. Then again so do some of the guys I know. I think I have the best sense of direction in the world and I am a guy. I do have to ask for directions at times though. So it really does have anything to do with gender. Just the person.

I don't think it matters if you are male or female.
I'm male and I was just born without a direction gene!

I disagree that men know "north, south".. I have no idea which direction I'm headed, until my recent vehicle had a compass on the mirror.

I now have a GPS unit and have not been lost since.
Getting lost makes me very stressed, well worth the money in investing in a GPS.

I agree that it all depends on the person. Some say it's genetic. I'm a woman and my sense of direction is non-existance...just like my mom. But my best friend has an amazing sense of direction while her husband is just like me. So she ends up driving most of the time.

I think in terms of north, south, east & west- it seems like women (my wife included) think in terms of "turn left or right"... It's probably just the individual- some people have a knack for it, others don't.
