My pastor throws snakes into the audience at church every Sunday. Most of the time its no big deal, but one Sunday when I was about 9 or 10 i caught the snake and it bit my throat. I swelled up pretty bad and they finally decided to take me to the hopsital, because apparently I wasn't 18 and so it was illegal not to get me medical attention. They said if I hadn't gotten there when I did I could have died. But I haven't been bitten since, and I still attend the same church. (But just between me and you, I don't leave 10% in the offering plate any more!). Take care.

I lived way out near the washington national forest in VA. I saw more wildlife than people growing up. As a kid i was always out in the woods and stuff. A real tomboy. When catching snakes with your bare hands it is important to be fast and grab the snake by the tip of the tail or just behind the head. (more inportant, know what kind of snake you are grabbing). I've been bitten a couple of times, but always by non-poisonous snakes. I was removing a baby black snake from my bed and he "kinda" bit me. Didn't even break the skin. I hadn't pulled him vertical quick enough and he swiveled around and got me on the wrist. I yelped and shook him a bit, and then just let him go outside. Mostly the snakes i have encountred just wana get away. A couple will play dead, an a few will try to bluff you away. I've only once had to kill a snake. A perticulary large timber rattler was accidently stepped on by someone in my girl scout troop. He got really angry quick. I didn't have any tools handy but a shovel so I couldn't safely remove him from the area.

Yeah. Nothing really, it bled a bit. O.K. it bled a bit more that a little.
Happened so fast I didnt feel it right away.
It swelled up a bit turned a lovely shade of purple.
Then healed up after about a week or so.
This wasnt a poisonous snake but a big one. It was my own fault really I startled him. I didnt know he was there. I got bit by a black/ratt snake too while fishing that didnt really hurt or swell up it just bled freely for a few minutes. I wrapped a tissue around it and it stopped. Bruised a couple days later then went away.
Ive been bitten by a nile monitor as well....that pretty much did the same thing. Except I got a bit of celluitus in my hand where he got me. Hurt like hell a couple days later couldnt move my fingers.
Cat bites seem to be much worse. Unless the snake is venomous.

Being a breeder for 31 years, I have been bitten many times.
Nonvenomous results in a little pain, some itching and re-examination of what I did wrong.
Venomous bites result in immediate pain, some more pain, a bit of panic and alot of "I'm in trouble" thoughts, coupled, of course, with some foul language.
Copperhead bites are very itchy and alot of swelling. Pain gets unbearable with heavy pulsations with every heartbeat. The skin is tender. Usually, within a month, all is near normal.
Pygmy rattlers are about the same, but effects don't last as long.
Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes are very painful, hard hitting bites resulting in intense pain and instant sweating. The swelling can cause the limb to "poof"up about 4 times normal size. Breathing is very labored, heartbeat pulsations can be felt throughout the entire body. The lungs hurt with every breath inhaled, eyes start to hurt and vision becomes blurred, speech become slurred, and every joint becomes painful, sometimes hard or imposible to move. You become stiff jointed at the joints closest to the bite. Twice my tongue swelled. Your kidneys malfunction and are in pain and there is a ringing in the ears.
In all venomous bites, puss and a watery fluid leak from the bite site. Some bites create huge, very painful, extremely tender blisters. Necrosis sets in around the bite site sometimes.
Antivenin is administered and you hope you are not allergic to it. Sometimes, just a few viles, sometimes as much as 30 viles.
It is a very painful and scary expirience. If the bite, pain, treatment, atrophy, and disfigurement didn't kill you, the medical bills will.
Python/boa bites: Small snakes-- nothing much really happened. Just like any other small nonvenomous snake.
Large snakes: Stitches. And alot of them.

Once. I got a little careless while feeding my Northern Copperhead. I was picking her up by hand & she must have caught the scent of the rat she was about to be fed. She struck at my arm & missed & I grabbed her a little too loosely behind the head. She managed to twist her jaws & sink one fang into my thumb. The other fang dripped a stream of venom, so I was sure that she injected some into me as well. After placing her back in her cage with the rat(dead). I called a friend to drive me to the ER. My hand started to swell & burn & turn black. Aftet receiving the proper anti-venom in multiple doses, the swelling went down in around three days & the color came back, more or less. The only lasting effect is that my thumb aches when the weather gets cold.

Many times , but never by a venomous snake . Mostly yellow and red rat snakes , a couple of black racers , even a banded water snake or two . No serious infections , though .

Once. Florida King Snake. I was checking him out at Reptile Haven in Fullerton California. The guy removed him from my finger as he did not bite and release, He just bit and sat there. It was not super scary and it was not painful. The snake was about 4 feet i would say, so not ginormous.

Yep. I ended up with two tiny pinpricks of blood on my finger. After, it turned purple, then pink, and then went away without even a scab. It was a 3 year old corn snake. I didnt feel it, and I didn't even notice it until I saw the blood.

venomous snake? no. Nonvenomous? Too many times to count. Basically I bled a bit. ever really hurt that much, though I'm sure a bite from a really big one could (my worst snake bite was from a "large" ball python, angry and hungry and he went into a food response while tightly wrapped around my hand biting my pinky... that hurt a bit... had to dunk him in water after several minutes to get him off me)

I've been bitten by:
- Black rat snakes
- Bullsnakes
- Garter snakes
- DeKay's snake (Texas Little Brown) (OK, so it is not much of a bite!)
- Blue racer
- Fox snake
No biggie. Basically, wash and ignore.
