He treats you well and acts like he cares -- why, oh, why does he have to say he's committed when he's acting committed?

It's a huge difference between men and women that neither understand.

Women like to play with relationships; talk about it, examine it, rate it's progress, define it. They have a term called The Talk which is insisting on a verbal level of commitment. They discuss it with their friends -- a lot!

Men like to "show they care" and believe that "its obvious that I love you". For men, defining a relationship is like falling into a trap. They are forced to commit to an equal level of emotional involvement. Forced! They don't want to examine it -- they want to enjoy it. If a man likes to be with you socially, that's what he wants to do -- he finds you satisfying on many levels.

Saying "I love you" looks like the fifth step to a race to marriage from a man's point of view. It's right there on the map.

Understand the differences between men and women. Women need to allow the man to express himself when he chooses. And Men need to learn to learn that some level of an "understanding" must be expressed beyond just treating your partner well.

Two possibilities:

1) He actually does not love you, but does care on a lower level.

2) He does love you, but feels insecurity about saying those words. Likely, his father figure never said them, and it seems less than masculine to him.

Maybe because he knows he loves you and knows that you know he loves you and doesn't see the need to tell you all the time. Try telling him that just like he likes having sex however many times a day/week/month with you, you like hearing from him every day/week/month that he loves you.

He could be a really nice guy and like you and all but still not love you...in the "I Love You" sense.
