How the hell do I do death/thrash style vocals like The Haunted, Pantera, Trivium, Suffocation, Arch Enemy and so on? Im already a decent singer so I know about warming up and breathing and vocal care and stuff but I have only sung clean up to now and I can only get the proper death/thrash sound for any amount of time when I whisper for some reason (which is useless basically) so I assume its something to do with my technique. My band is trying to revamp its sound and I think that we could do a more suitable vocal style so I really wanna learn this.

you have to perfect the "growl" sound. its a deeper part of singing. I love arch enemy and even sang some of their songs "we will rise". Singing that way can take its toll on your voice if you aren't used to singing that way. I know i was hoarse the next day after sining a lot of arch enemy. I don't know how you get your vocal chords used to singing that way, but i know there has to be some technique to it. good luck!

Smoke 80 Marlboro reds a day with the filters cut off, swallow some course sandpaper and wash it down with some white spirit.

I think your problem is something you have pointed out yourself... 'you are a decent singer'........ so no chance of singing thrash metal....
