I thought that a legal contract bound both parties. Why in this case does the NFL have a loop-hole?

To sgoldper.... - The players can not terminate only the owners can
To tallerfel - I am not talking moral clause, I am talking the ream cutting a player

The owners deal with the players appears to be totally one-sided. Maybe Bryan Gumble is right, Gene Upshaw may have sold out the NFL players association.

Well then why can I be hired? Come on this is part of employment law. They aren't paid an hourly wage, so they get a contract. Come to PA we have print in every application stating that it can be terminated at any time by either party.

There are not any NO CUT contracts. And no guaranteed contracts. Other than signing bonus money that is the only guaranteed money a player gets for signing. Why would any team give a player a no cut contract? They would be stupid and hence you don't see it.

The team probably can't actually cut a player at any time. The player must be within striking distance in order for the team to reach him.

Apparently they can cut a player at any time (I'm sure they sign something to this affect in their contracts), but that is why bonuses are offered--they act as incentives for the players to stick around and try to earn more money.
