I don't actually hate it. I just usually won't read it.
It makes sense for phone text messages when the number of letters used is important for some reason. But doing it in any other setting, such as email or posting to a blog where you presumably wish to be understood and perhaps respected, merely makes the writer look somewhat immature and/or illiterate.
Besides, it's a terrible habit to get into. When you are in the grown-up world of careers and write without capitalization or proper spelling, it may actually hinder your success.

Yeah, it really irks me, it's worse than: 1) incorrect use of the apostrophe (cant: leave's); 2) failure to check written text for typos (pleople: congratulation) and 3) basic linguistic errors (any one as two words; incorrect punctuation - such as failure to use a question mark or using both a full stop and a question mark; and failure to capitalize 'English' and 'Welsh'). Can I say 'touche' yet?

I find it's easier to text in normal english with dictionary mode on. it's alot quicker than typing out the word finding out the phone doesn't know it so going through to spell it pressing buttons several times and the like. by the time someone has done that i've typed the text sent it and i'm putting the phone in my pocket walking down the street

Yes, I hate it just as much as people who can't use apostrophes, people who put full stops before question marks, people who can't use the spell checker and people who don't know that Wales is part of the UK.

it annoys me but a survey has shown that it does improve the brain in terms of spelling as the individual has to think of the spelling then knock of the vowels and any other letters but still make it legiable.

You better believe it. They only use text speak because they cannot spell the real words correctly.

Who are you to criticise?
There are six grammar/spelling errors in YOUR short question!
cant should be 'can't
There should be a question mark after 'write it.'
it should be leaves not 'leave's'
pleople should be 'people'
congratulation should be 'congratulations'
eg has full stops after the initials, it should be 'e.g.'
