We'll be there for a week long trip and will be staying in Orlando.We were looking for ideas for day trips,maybe to the everglades or maybe a drive to Miami or through the keys.

Drive over to I-75 in Tampa. Take a drive down the West coast until you hit Naples. From here you can either continue on I-75 (it becomes a toll road called Alligator Alley) or you can jump on 41 (free road). Both roads cut through the Everglades. Once you hit Homestead start heading south. You'll come to a town called Florida City, which is the gateway to the Keys. Get on U.S. 1 and follow it all the way down to Key West. On the way back you can take I-95 up the East coast of Florida (for a change of scenery) until you get to 528 (BeachLine). 528 will take you back into Orlando...

I agree with the first post but keep in mind a trip down there by itself can be well over a 7 hr drive one way , you might want to go to Cocoa Beach or Tampa Bay instead.

I'd recommend you head south. There's only one road across the Keys so you can't miss it. When you can't go any farther turn around and head north. You should get a pretty good view of the Keys that way.

Specifically, it's Highway 1. No other way in on two or four wheels.

Take an airboat ride, you'll be glad you did, it is one of the best overlooked boat rides in florida, I am an airboat captain
