not a thing, they are over priced and besides, we all go to wal-mart now anyway.

Compared to the little crappy mom and pop stores that used to be around in the days before supermarkets they are a a super improvement. They have a lot of kinds of merchandise and some of it is on sale - very different from those neighborhood ones with stale stuff and always-high prices.

50 years ago instead of going to a supermarket, you would have had to shop all day at the following stores:
butcher
green grocer
pharmacy
general store
bakery
bar (only way to buy beer or hard liquor)
dry goods
then if you were lucky you had dairy and ice delivered to your house, if not you had to make stops for them too.
One stop shopping is nice

Most supermarkets meet most needs such as banking, pharmaceutical, buying stamps and lottery tickets, fresh meat, produce, buying money orders, etc. It's pretty super.

It's bigger than the more traditional "Mom and Pop" stores.
Back in the day, you went to one store for your bread, another for your veggies, another for your dairy. The supermarket incorporated all these departments, and more, under one roof.
Like a department store is so named cuz it has many different departments: clothing, jewelry, housewares, etc.

Cause that's where I buy my Special K with strawberries, and my orange spice tea, and my mint ginger-ale, and all kinda super stuffs!
