I wouldn't recommend taking a telemarketing job. First of all, they have very high burnout rates and no one stays in them for long. Second of all, people get annoyed with telemarketers so you're going to be treated like dirt every day by the people you call. Third, they don't pay very well. I'd suggest finding something else to do.

Telemarketing jobs are good in that they get you into a company. Very few people feel called to stay at these jobs for long - they are high pressure, low pay, involve an incredibly high call volume for the most part, and usually pretty poor benefits. They also tend to be contract work..you won't work for Nike as a telemarketer for instance, you'll work for a company they contracted to for a period to do their calls, and will lose the job when the contract is over. I generally avoid people getting into these jobs, outbound or inbound, unless you've a great personality and the ability to not ever take things personally...you will be insulted and attacked a lot, and you have to be able to shrug it off every time.

I wouldnt reccommend it unless you like being cussed out and screamed at. Not many ppl like telemarketers and the pay is not great. Turnover rate is high and they will hire almost anyone. My husband worked in telemarketing and he had 15 kids that went to high school together all working in his area. so between calls they were screaming yelling laughing. Couldn't hear a word. Horrible horrible job. Sorry.

If your idea of fun and enjoyment is having root canals done on a regular basis then you will LOVE working in telemarketing... otherwise... get a real job... Telemarketing is the nearest thing to Hell I know of.

I can be a very tough and frustrating line of work. As one person previously said it can be low pay and low benefits. It really does take the right personality to do it, but those that do seem to really enjoy.
I haven't known too many people that have stayed in it all their life. The couple of people that I know that stayed in it for any serious length of time were only able to go so far within the company they were with and then there was no room for anymore advancement, so they eventually moved onto another company.
Good luck with your decision.

It depends - do you like to talk on the telephone to complete strangers about a product that you are trying to sell - some people enjoy doing this - sounds to me (I hate talking on the phone) like a job made in Hades - and I know of people who have spent their life doing this - go figure!@

They are probably the worst kind.
The only good reason I could think of, is if you are wanted to improve a language, say if you are Chinese and living in USA and want to speak English better.
They paid s.h.i.t. are micro-managed and suck balls.
