I found this word in a thesaurus I own, but it's packed away. The word means, to receive welfare or receiving welfare. It's apparently rather obscure, I'd never seen it or heard it used before, but it can be very handy in writing articles and reports.

Do an online search. www.dictionary.com it has an online thesaurus. I don't like bum, or looser or whatever others are saying. That's crazy, not all people receiving welfare are bums or loosers. I'm so grateful I've never had to get state handouts, but I'm also glad for the people who are able to receive a home and go to school to better themselves because of it. Not everyone who receives takes advantage.

I wish I could help. If it's not at all used anymore then it would have to be looked up in a thesaurus with an old copywright. If you can't find yours, try the library. You may have to blow the dust off it.
