It's the Distributive Property. Distribute the 4 to everything in the parentheses. So first you would do (4)(2) to get 8. Then you do (4)(3x) to get 12x. The answer will be written as 12x+8.

think of it as a game. the object of the game is to get X by itself. start with
4(2+3X)=0 multiply 4 x 2=8 multiply 4 x 3X=12X
8+12X=0 try to get X on a side by itself. subtract 8 from both sides
12X= -8(because u subtracted) try to get X by itself. divide both sides by 12
X= - 8/12 the 12/12 cancelled out because any number over itself equals 1 right... :)
put -8/12 in lowest term.....
X= -2/3
