You cannot apply the (macro-level) concept of sustainable development to an industry (which is a micro-level entity).

sustainable development, sounds like non-sense to me at best and Marxist ideology cloaked in psydo science at worst.

The very idea seems like a fabricated justification for government meddling in the economy. Regulating it to a slower than normal pace. I wonder if we'd still be riding donkey's and dying by age 40 if this concept had be introduced about 150 years ago.
