The cosmetics counter will have a color chart. This is primarily used to select makeups for your complexion, however, it also has matching colors.
The make-up counter person will be able to tell you, however, there are such nuances in colors, you really need to start from those suggestions on the colorists chart, and see which matches you best.

When I'm shopping, if I see something I like in a color I'll like, I'll try it on. I can usually instantly tell if a color doesn't work with my skin tone. For example, I know that oranges, most yellows, stone, bright or pastel greens don't work for me. I've always looked better in earthy greens and browns, black (of course), pinks, deeper purples and blues. It's just been trial and error for me.
