It all depends really on whether yo want to look at it or ride it. If you simply want to take it for a ride once or twice before having to take it to the dealers for some expensive repair work, I would choose Ducati. If you want a bike that is good in all weathers and just keeps going, then I would choose the honda.

It depends completely on the model(s) you're looking at.

Ducati's are NOT unreliable. The do have a more frequent maintenance schedule.

My daily ride is a Duc 620M Monster - other than regular maintenance I have done nothing but oil and tires. Here's the breakdown of costs for a 100,000 mile Monster:
600 mile Maint $200
6,000 mile (adjust valves, etc) $500
check valves every 10,000 miles thereafter $0

Its the same for all two-valve Ducatis. The high performance four valvers should be checked every 6,000 miles.

Any Honda sportbike you purchase will have one scheduled maintenance around the 500-600 mile mark (tighten nuts and bolts, check stuff), then it's pretty much nothing except oil/tires with a valve lash check every 20,000 or so.

But --- big but here --- the big sportbikes eat tires for lunch, and there's no cheap replacements. Plan on budgeting $300 - $400 every 3,000 to 5,000 miles for new tires for the 1,000 cc Duc or Honda. The lower powered beasts can go 7,000 miles on a decent tire.

It's once you decide what you need from a bike, and what you can afford, it's down to what you feel. A motorcycle is an emotional choice anyway (it's not really logical to ride a bike instead of driving a car) , so make the choice that puts the biggest smile on your face.

We own about 30 bikes currently - and have owned at least another 150 more over the last 10 years. I like my Japanese models, but I love my italian machines.

That's why MY answer isn't YOUR answer - there is no blanket right answer - just the answer that's right for you.

Bottom line? Buy what fits your pocketbook and makes you happiest.

Ducatis are slightly unique yet as they're Italian are companies to being tempramental issues. Hondas have outstanding build high quality and characteristic a tendency to no longer bypass incorrect that during lots of cases. the two may well be outstanding motorcycles whilst working wisely interior the spectacular circumstances

You do not say what sport you are talking about.

Seeing as how I like Formula 1 and Ducati do not race in F1, I have to say Honda!

I have ridden both, and enjoyed each. BUT if you are over 6 feet tall I would go with the Honda. Duc's are great if you are small as the bike just feels smaller. Myself being a tall guy, got very cramped after a while on a Duc. That is what decided it for me. You will spend money on both bikes in the long run, but a Honda is better for longer runs if you are a full grown American male.

Depends what your after. Honda=reliable, great re-sale value. Ducati=Beautiful, un-reliable.

Try to narrow your choice down to a couple of bikes and give them a test ride. Dealers in the UK can be a bit hard to get a test ride out of, but if there's a deal to be had, they'll relent! God luck.
o' and 'keep it on the black stuff!'
