To me, he is still the # 1 striker. Although he has not had a good year but if he can be fit, he can be a goal scoring machine and the most fearsome striker on this planet. True, he has to face stiff competition from Van Nistelroy, Raul and other strikers but in a way it will be good for Brasil cos he will work even harder now and try to bring out his very best. Do you still have faith in Ronaldo and his ability ? http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/5966004

All I can say is " GO RONALDO." I really hope he proves the critics wrong.

if he can stay healthy, and get to match fitness, he can be a very dangerous player, he might of lost a step, but he can still score goals, if i was a coach i would love to have Ronaldo on my team anytime, there's a reason why they called him the phenom, let's just pray that he stays healthy.....

It'll be difficult for him. It's not just that he's old and needs to lose some serious weight, his own self-belief must have taken quite a beating after the past year and the World Cup 2006, which turned out disastrously for him.

Anyway, I think that he does not deserve the chance. Can't you see it already? He was given so many chances on the national team and he still failed to repay the coach for his faith in him, he let so many people down...I think that he no longer has the kind of grit and determination that's needed to succeed as a player. He's gotten rich and fat on success, it was only a matter of time before he started his decline.

Honestly, I think that a certain very talented young player, one Robson de Souza aka Robinho (have you heard of him? perhaps not) deserves that chance as number one striker, not just on the national team but also in his club (which is somewhere in Spain, called Real Madrid, apparently, it's fallen into disrepair in the hands of incompetent managers and geriatric players way past their expiry date).

Also, I think you've gotten your facts wrong, the afforementioned Raul is no longer any good. I think that if he and Ronaldo were to compete for a place in the club starting eleven, Ronaldo ought to get it--at least he's still his old self, stuck deep within the recesses of his unconscious. He just needs to kick his addiction to beautiful women and come back to what he's really supposed to do.

Ronaldo has the talent to be great again, however, 90% of playing is mental and Ronaldo just isn't in the game mentally anymore.
-Ronaldo has been blessed to have a few coaches/managers that have not pushed him to be match fit over the years and he has lost the will to be great again.
-Dunga, the new national team coach has so many young strikers ready to take Ronaldo's place and I just don't think he wants to be the best again! Did you see him in the World Cup walking up and down the pitch and his games last season with Real were just horrible.

well heres the thing, ur askin about striker. purely a striker. that immediately says ronaldo. as good as henry is (by the way, its THIERRY), he is not a natural goal-getter. if u watch how they both play there is an obvious difference. henry is more of a play-maker. a one of a kind but he needs the ball to come to him directly. ronaldo on the other hand is a natural. knows where to stand, where to wait. natural strikers have a certain 6th sense. ronaldo is one of them. knows where to wait to get the ball and when he is in his on-form, knows immediately what to do with the ball without hesitation. the answer is simple, henry perhaps might be the better over-all player with his versatility but ronaldo is simply the better striker.

I think his status at real is indicated by the fact they tried to ship him off to Milan. He has faced the Boos from the Madrid fans for good reason.

He doesn't track back very often so he waits until the ball comes to him, his weight issues are notorious and his speed hasn't shown very much lately. His best days are past him and he should just find a new team to play with and get some money before he retires.

Ronaldo is a paradox- sometimes hot, then remarkably cold. Seems he suffers mood swings that affect his performances. Plus he appears to struggle with his weight. But he's talented no doubt. Yes, he could become the #1 striker. But he'd crash and burn again soon after that.

Yeah you cant help but be hopeful but you've got to admitt, his age is wearing him down and fast and yeah for him to get back to form would be heavenly for brazil maybe they might have a better international competition that the world cup, now was that a shock or what?

I think his time is past...real should give the other people a try, to me the best striking for would be Ruud and Robinho, what a show that will be
