Respect is earned by the giving of effort and the understanding of the needs, as well as the abilities of the person regardless of what the job involves. I have swept floors at a University and managed factories. Respect starts and ends with what you make of it. Be good at what you do, give it honest effort, and care about it and you will indeed be in a respectable position.
