Dear Friend,
I assume you are suffering from Diabetes mellitus (maturity onset type, Type II). These suggestions have no value for diabetes insipidus.
Dos:
Regular habits especially your diet. Timing, type of food and quantity must be regular.
Take the prescribed medication (Oral hypoglycemics or insulin injections) at the specified timings.
Exercising is a must for all diabetics. Do at least 5 times weekly sessions, minimum of 30 minutes each.
Include lot of green leafy vegetables in your diet. Have at least one serving of citrus fruits.
Look after your feet as lovingly and carefully as you tend to your face.
Do read up about diabetes, its complications and how to prevent them. A number of web sites have been suggested by other answerers.
Do remember there are millions of humans out there like you who have diabetes but enjoy a normal life.
Don ts:
At any cost do not consume refined carbohydrates (sugars, molasses, honey, and any variety thereof).
Do not skip any meal.
Do not stop medications unless advised by a competent person.
Do not smoke tobacco in any form.
Do not disregard a cut or wound. Get proper medical attention.
Do not forget to take your medicines even on travel/vacation.
Happy long life with diabetes!
Regards
Col K E Rajan

Eat a nutrious ADA diet. Keep carbohydrates down. See a nutritionist. you should eat 6 small meals a day. Stay away from soda and caffenine water is the best answer! Moderation moderation moderation. Call your local hospital and set up an appointment with the dietican or nutrionist and have them go over the steps and do's and donts they will also make a menu out for you. Also do not clip your own toe nails. Go see a podiatrist. Healing times are affected by your diabetes. So please try hard to not cut yourself or anything like that. Good Luck!

For great advice from experts in the field, read How to Prevent and Treat Diabetes with Natural Medicine by Michael Murray. They do stress that in many cases it is necessary to work with an allopathic physician, and recommend that you find one that is experienced and skilled in treating diabetic patients.
Good luck and God Bless!
