Old England (like the 1500's)

Generally, I think cities are interesting. More people equals more potential for character interactions that drive a plot. However, I don't pick what books to read based on what sort of physical setting they have; I'm not less likely to read a book because the cover blurb says that it is set in a small village or the wilderness. (The book I'm currently reading -- re-reading yet again -- is set in the wilderness for a large part of the story.)

England. Usually long ago. I like best the ones in villages or on country estates, but with a few scenes of London. Actually, anything at all about Britain, which includes Scotland, Wales and sometimes Ireland. [What's official? Is Ireland part of "Britain" or "the British Isles," or both?]

I mean, I like lots of other locations, too, but my favorites seem to be mostly in England.

a war setting always gets me, a desert, sometimes the city and sometimes a village. It all depends, the book itself is what really matters, but I'll admit that fantasy settings and romance settings aren't my favorite.

Scotland highlands during the 1800s to 1900s. Castles,Battles and such things. I still can't imagine how they functioned without anti-persperant and clorox though.
