Yes, nearly everybody so far is correct, it is a (little) drain on the car battery.
So two guys park, one plays his radio and the other one doesn't, then they both start driving. The car that had the radio on will use a little more fuel at first, because its engine is pushing the car along AND turning the alternator to recharge the battery. In the other car, the alternator can be idle, and it uses less fuel.

Think about it...the engine and a/c are the only parts that use fuel
Lights, radio etc. use electrical power from the battery. The alternator recharges the battery as you drive so all you would be doing is draining the battery if anything that requires electrical power is being used when engine is off

No. It soesn't increase fuel consumption. It does, however, for an extended period of time, have a negative effect on your battery charge. But with the key in the acc. position, it will take a considerable amount of time if all you have on is the radio. That is, ofcourse, as long as you have a good battery.

Any gas value reductions you think of you observed for the period of your incident got here from you paying interest on your velocity, and not from turning off any upload-ons. The radio and blower motor might reason the alternator to paintings a splash greater for the period of your holiday to the gas provide up, however the huge deal is in any slower velocity you used to realize that trip spot in that 3000 pound automobile. if reality be told, next time you pick to save gas, try going a splash slower up hill and letting the automobile run a splash quicker down hill. in keeping with risk enable your self approximately 10% velocity deviation the two way. you would be surprised. I drove a huge previous "muscle" automobile around the United stated as quickly as, making use of in hassle-free terms a vacuum gauge as my velocity indicator. I enable the automobile run out to 80 going on hill and gradually bogged right down to approximately 60 while going up hill. the top effect became a earnings of approximately 15% in gas performance. try it!!!

I say no, it drains the battery. However if you kill the battery then you cuold risk flooding the engin trying to start it. That wastes gas.
