I wonder what made you want to live there in the first place? Anyway, try this. Put vinegar and a slice of lemon in a saucer. Vinegar should almost fill up the saucer, the lemon sits in the center. Place these saucers in every room, cupboard, corners. You'll be surprised the odour will disappear, 48hours or longer

Go to a coffee distributor and buy large burlap sacks of roasted coffee beans and sit them out and open, one in each room.

That is what DMORT and FEMA sometimes use when there are decomposed bodies. Absorbs the smell nicely.

Another option: shallow bowls of vinegar in each room. Don't think I would want to do the coffee and vinegar at the same time though.

Hi
thats awful that the prevoius people kept and left your new home like that. and you have dont the right thing by getting rid of all stuff in the house (tough job though) that should irradicate a small percent of it...opened windows and basically cleaning from top to bottom ..is the only answer ..its a long drawen out process and unfortunately has been left to yourself to do xxxx
Best of luck xx

I just moved into a new place a coupla weeks ago. It had a slight pet odor. I simply moved all my stuff in and set about my normal living routine. The smell is gone. I guess I've replaced it with my own household scent.

If that doesn't work, shampoo the carpets.

It sounds to me like you need the help of a qualified person. On a normal basis I would recommend bicarbonate of soda to wash things down with and dust over carpets etc before vacuuming, but this problem sounds like it needs professional help. Look in your local telephone directory. I think you will find the expense will pay off in the end.

Coal is a good smell-neutraliser. Also a lot of lime and lemon(citrus) as well as vinegar. Not forgetting a good airing of course.
