I mean I know that they are a nationality, but I've met a few and they seem are tanned with almond-shaped eyes. They also have a different accent from other asian-accents, like Chinese etc. Can anyone explain their history to me please?

Filipinos are basically a cross between Spanish and Chinese. The Phillipines was invaded by Spain, hence many Filipinos carrying Spanish surnames.

They are from the Malay archipelago situated around the equator that explains the tanned complexion.
Each ethnic group has its own perculiar accent and they speak Tagalog.
Christianity is their major religion followed by Islam, there are quite a population of Chinese origin too.

The reason they are different from other Asian countrie sis because they were a colony of Spain for many years and they have the Spanish influence, (language, food, appereance).
