I think the Twins' fate will rest with Boof Bonser and Matt Garza, the guys who have to step up with Liriano out. Garza has struggled to this point, but he's also a kid who just got drafted last year. Tough to say how he'll do these last few weeks. Bonser has been pitching better as of late, lowering his ERA by over a run over his last 8 starts. I think he's a good guy to have stepping into that # 2 spot.
Also, I believe people underestimate the Twins' ability to score runs. Morneau and Mauer get some attention, but that lineup has scored the tenth-most runs in all of baseball because it's got some tough guys throughout the lineup like Cuddyer, Bartlett, Castillo and Punto. They're not going to hit 200 homers as a team, but they can score runs.
I believe the division comes down to the Tigers' pitching, which to this point has been the best in baseball. If their starting pitching continues to be that good, then I think the offense will score enough to carry them to the division title. They're going through the same funk a lot of teams go through during a 162-game season, and it's just coming at a bad time for them.
I'll pick the Tigers to hold on and win the division, with the Twins and Chisox battling for the wildcard. If I had to pick between those two, I'd go with the Twins, who I think can hold on even without Liriano. Their challenge, though, will be winning a playoff series without him.

No problem, dude.
I am totally cool with that.
I think The Tigers still make the playoffs along with The Twins.
I am NOT one of those people that jump on board when any team is doing well. I've stuck with The Tigers over the last 13 years when they didnt finish above .500 all those years. I was a fan in 2003, and I'll be a fan in 2033.
I bet you paniced last season when the white sox had that huge 15 game over Cleveland in August, then suddenly you were only up by 3 in late September.
Division or wild card, The Tigers go and your whinny little crybabies form the southside get watch from the couch.
Enjoy your old style while you do.

Detroit takes Wild Card/Division and Twins take Wild Card/Devision
Everyone is saying the Twins are going to lose now that Liriano is gone for the season. PEOPLE! Twins are doing very well without him. Matt Garza didn't deserve his fifth, third and first lost. Boof is pitching like a pro, and Santana.... well he's just a machine.
Twins also have one of if not the best bullpin in the league.
Well thats my statement.
And Gorgie Porgie you've made yourself pretty famouse in this baseball cataqgory eh?

Twins take the division, Tigers get wild card. Liriano would been a big help to the Twins, but since Aug 8 (after he was put on DL), they still have been AWESOME!. White Sox have a tough schedule remaining, and won't make it. They still have to play Oakland, Detroit, and Minnesota.

GP's Tigers and your sox got a gift with Liriano goin down and ya'll took a collective sign of relief upon hearing the news.
The Twins will give it all they got with what they have left but the Tigers will hang on and win the division while the Sox will sneak in the back door with the wild card.

Chicago and Minnesota make it; Detroit's out. While everyone is jumping on Chicago having a tough schedule, also realize that the White Sox are also the best team in baseball against other teams with winning records. Besides, all of our pitchers are healthy, and they have definitely shown that in a short span of time, they can absolutely dominate. Add to that an offense that can put up runs in bunches, and they're not out of it.
Especially with Detroit having to come to Chicago for 3 starting Monday.

Quit talking out of your butt and leave G.P. alone. The Tigers are going in as the Central champions, and the Twins are going in as the Wildcard. The White Sox missed the train, period.

Your Twinkies lost Liriano. How far do you think you can go in the last month with Boof Bonser, Matt Garza and Carlos Silva?
Sure, you'll win Santana's starts... but what about the other 4 days of the week? And what about once you get in?
Detroit should be able to hang onto this thing.

It's gonna be Detroit and Minnesota. Minnesota has been strong and the ChiSox haven't been strong. I know the Tigers haven't been strong either but I see them holding on until the end.
