I have a 318 1996 and has 64 k and I know it is hard to find one like this also I think it will go for more than M3 because slow engine are more relaible. In your case it should be less than 100K.
I saw in a web site I think autotrader.com someone has an M3 1995 yelow and has only 6k he want 40.000 for it. It is expensive but it is a breath taking car I would prefere it on the new M3's it the best M3 i have ever seen.

when i was a BMW technician, i rarely saw an E36 M3 past 100K. but that's probably only because their owners didn't take care of their cars, and/or prematurely crashed them. it could also be that almost all owners with older cars prefer to use indepentdent shops since they're much cheaper than the dealership.

but getting back to your question, the E36 drivetrain is solid. it will easily last 200K+ if taken care of properly. however, i can't comment about the peripherals, e.g. the little stuff - power steering hoses leaking, final stage in the blower motor going out, suspension bushings going bad, etc.

We have a 94, 325i at our lot that runs really well it has 128k miles on it. I would say that if you have treated it well that it could last you possibly into the 200k miles. But you can never tell.

Should be running as good as new with required maintenance.
