I always thought the foxtrot was the easiest, because it's basically variations on a the basic box step and the hardest for me was Waltz. Although, watching the Irish Stepdancing, Riverdance and the like, I know no matter how much practice, I don't think I could ever totally "get" that kind of dancing.

I think that depends on a lot of different variables. You body type, your physiology, your mental attitude towards a certain dance, you familiarity with a style (having seen it a lot before doing it), your instructor, how much you like the style, etc... there are any number of compounding cariables which would alter a persons abilities with each different dance style. What's easy for one might be very difficult for another. Your own physiology will dictate much of how difficult certain movements are. Your own level of physical fitness will also determine how hard or easy something seems. Some dances are based more in spontenaity while others are very structured and you will find one of those styles easier than the other while someone else prefers the opposite style you do. Personally I like spontenaity but others need structure. Even within those styles there are teachers who will find a way to add structure to a spontaneous styleand spontenaity to a structured style. It will have more to do with how much you like a dance and how much work you put into it. If you really love a particular style enven if you work extra hard to get it it won't have seemed very hard because you loved doing it. As opposed to a style which you have only moderate interest in which you subsequently will put less effort into and therefore see fewer results and get discouraged sooner This will make you feel the style was harder than others. It's really a very personal thing which is why you see so many different answers out there, some of them conflicting. To get even a resonable answer you would have to talk to many, many people who have tried every dance style there is and then your data would more acurately model what people think is difficult and hard. When asking people who have only tried one or two dance styles your results will be poor. Your other option is to ask which of the following styles is the hardest and then list several. Your answers will be better and give you a clearer comparison of the styles your asking about.

Ballet (pointe) is the most difficult.

Any social dancing (like swing, waltz, social foxtrot, salsa) is pretty easy.

At the basic level, folk dancing is probably the easiest of all. It is supposed to be danced by regular people, not by professional dancers.

Also depends on how good are you aspiring to be at any of it.

I would say the variety of Native American Dance. The instructors are Native American, unless you happen to be in the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow.

But I am sure you mean the more popular Ball Room dancing we all watch on TV today. I think the Pasa Doble was cool, looked difficult.
