That's what my Political Science professor says, I never thought that but if what he said was true,China and Russia wanted them on it because De Gaul would be sympathetic to them. Churchill did not want it to happen he tried to get the US to back him, they would not, he new they would be trouble makers, and eager to gain power at any cost.

simple, you have to remember that America's behavior in WW2 was that of total cowards. The Nazis attacked Poland the brave countries of the world the UK, France Canada Australia New Zealand declared war, the USA did not. London burned from bombings Americas answer? a law was passed stripping any American of his nationality if he fort the Nazis. Despite being totally abandoned by the USA the free world fort on. In WW1 the Americans didn't little to help again and far too late. A generation of french men were wiped out yet the brave french declared war. You would think after the French freed the USA from the UK a little gratitude would be shown, but no. After and only after the USA was attacked did the USA declare war.
France is a member because unlike the USA , France stood up in two world wars took horrendous losses but did the moral and correct thing.
If American had not refused to join the league of nations , then it would have been possible that WW2 would have never occurred, but once again the lack of American morality shows through.
France is and was a leader of the free world just some countries are so provincial they cant see it or adopt the metric system like the rest of the world .

France the 'rout' of most trouble? the US has military forces in over 100 other countries, i think that is a greater 'source' of conflict in the world. Most US citizens were not interested in fighting the Nazis (people like Bush's granddaddy even did business with them) and had to wait until the Nazis declared war on the US after Pearl Harbour.

The reality is that england, had it been connected by land to continenetal europe, would also have been overrun. The Nazis were allowed to build up too much military muscle, and develop techniques to use new technologies (faster tanks, heavy bombers). If New york state were attached to france, it would have been overrun in days too. You really can't blame the French in isolation.
I would hardly say France being on the security council has handicapped the UN more then having the soviet union did.
